HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR MANUSCRIPT FOR REVIEW
Authors often send me partial manuscripts and/or they have not followed my formatting guidelines. So before you contact me, please read the following:
1. Make certain you have said everything you want to say. In other words, your book is finished, including the table of contents, introduction or preface (or both). Your reference or bibliography section, if you are including one, can be submitted later.
2. Your manuscript should be in one electronic file and saved as a .doc or .docx file.
3. Use double-spacing.
4. No bolding or underlining; chapter titles can be all caps. Bolding should not be used in print editions (but it’s allowed in e-books). Underlining should never be used in a book. Italics can be used for emphasis instead of all caps, underlining, or bolding.
5. Use automatic paragraph indents.
6. Use one-inch margins all around.
7. The font should be no smaller than 14 pt. (this larger font is necessary during editing because it makes it easier to read).

9. Do a final spell-check
10. Check your manuscript for excessive repetition. This includes repetition in content and ideas, and in word usage. Strive to say more with less, and avoid boring, overused adjectives and slang. During editing, I will be looking closely at these issues.
10. If appropriate, include some practical application of the material, especially when writing about spiritual development. This can be as simple as a short meditation or affirmation at the end of each chapter.
I am no longer accepting manuscripts that contain design elements. This means you or someone else has already designed the file for publication, often as an e-book. Computer software has resulted in many first-time authors designing their own books before editing. They want to see on-screen how the pages will look in print. I understand this, but designed book files are difficult to edit, and I am no longer willing to do the necessary reformatting.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PREFACE AND AN INTRODUCTION
Traditionally, in a preface the author writes about their personal experience. Why did they write the book?
An introduction serves the purpose of telling readers what the book is about and what they can hope to learn from it.

A foreword is usually written by someone who is knowledgeable in the subject matter of your book (usually non-fiction).
WHAT YOUR EDITING WILL COST
Proofreading and basic copy editing: $30 / hour
Complex copy editing with some content editing: $35 / hour
Extensive content editing, rewriting, and reorganization: $45 / hour
Medical and Technical Editing: $45 / hour
Consulting: $45 / hour
Writing book prefaces, introductions, marketing materials, and website copy:
$45 / hour
Manuscript Analysis $200 – $400 (depending on length)
I will provide a brief sample edit and approximate cost estimate.
I use tracking when doing basic copy editing. However, if there is significant editing, rewriting, and moving sections of text around, tracking is not useful to the author.
A 50% deposit is expected at the beginning of a project, with the balance due upon completion. If a project is expected cost less than $500, no deposit will be required.
I do not use contracts, but I will sign one if an author requests it.
I am also willing to sign a non-disclosure agreement, if necessary.
